Dr Deepak Raheja Reviews

Dr Deepak Raheja  points out, “Depression seems to be one of the biggest health challenges in adults.” However, it can be treated. The symptoms of depressive disorders can be reversed with appropriate treatment, at the right time. Dr Deepak Raheja Reviews that may trigger a number of physical, cognitive and social illnesses.

The world is progressing like never before. And this has got us thinking! From our ever-challenging professional lives to chaotic emotional phases, there are lots that we tend to ponder over. And let’s accept, each one of us is combating with a set of problems deep within ─ issues regarding health, work, money, relationships, children, parents, and the list goes on!

But the need of the hour is to break free. Yes, we need to unwind before it gets too late. Dr Deepak Raheja, a top psychiatrist in Delhi, states that more than 36% of India is trapped in the snares of depression. One among every 10 individuals in India is depressed, and that calls for attention!

Geriatric Depression Scale or GDS is one such tool that is designed to measure depression in the elderly. This may include healthy aged individuals, medically-ill older adults, or cognitively-impaired (mild to moderate) elderly. This screening test aims at evaluating severity of the symptoms pertaining to depression. The idea is to ensure effective monitoring and accurate treatment.

The GDS is basically a brief questionnaire. It is of two types:

  • Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form (GDS-S)
  • Geriatric Depression Scale Long form (GDS-L)

The GDS-S contains 15 questions, while the GDS-L has 30 questions. These basic screening tests are extensively used with older population suffering from mild-to-moderate depression due to Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. The participants simply need to read the questions and respond in ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.

  • The case is considered normal if the score ranges from 0 to 9.
  • A score between 10 and 19 suggests mild depression.
  • A participant may have severe depression if the score is within the range of 20 and 30.

A patient might require a detailed clinical investigation if the score is above 5.

How reliable is GDS?

A number of clinical researches and practises have validated the reliability of GDS. However, Dr Deepak Raheja Reviews that it is just a screening tool, and the results of the test should not be considered as the final assessment of a patient’s state of mind. A thorough clinical diagnosis by a mental health expert is mandatory.
