Smart City Mission is a scheme introduced in June by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under it, 100 smart cities will be developed in coming years. NDA Government is planning to spend Rs 48,000 crore on this scheme in coming five years.
Maharashtra Government chose Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Pune-Pimpri Chinchwad, Amravati, Solapur, Nagpur, Kalyan Dombivali, Aurangabad, Nashik and Thane, to be a part of this mission. In a Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister of the state Mr. Devendra Fadnavis made it very clear that a high level committee was set up to select these cities on basis of some criteria, whose Chairman was the Chief Secretary. Devendra Fadnavis said that these cities will be crafted into smart cities of India and its AMRUT is another plan to cater the needs of those rural projects which need to undergo the reconstruction and refurbishment phase.
