Simple, yet a significant document, Aadhaar card has become mandatory for every documentation work. It has eased a multitude of things and become an indispensable part of our life. Considering the importance of Aadhaar card in every official matter, it becomes important to keep track of certain deadlines set by the government that you need to meet.
- December 31, 2017- the last date for linking Aadhaar and PAN
As per the law, it is mandatory to link Aadhaar and PAN for every PAN holder (except certain categories exempted via notification dated May 11, 2017). It was earlier asserted that Income Tax Returns (ITR) filed after July 1, 2017 would be accepted only after linking the PAN with Aadhaar card. However, due to the inability of people in complying with it, the government extended the deadline to Aug 5, 2017. One of the most common reasons for the inability to link both the documents was the discrepancies in errors in spellings. Thus, the government had to give relaxation to individuals who filed their ITRs on or before August 5, 2017 but did not link their PAN with Aadhaar. It is important to note that the final deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar card is December 31, 2017.
- December 31, 2017- Deadline for providing Aadhaar to financial institutions
The new rules hold that every financial institution should ensure that its customers are know-your-customer (KYC) compliant. Everyone is required submit their Aadhaar and PAN details, in order to abide by KYC. The account holders who are unable to do this by before December 31, 2017, cannot operate their account in the respective bank or any other financial institute.
- February 6, 2018- Last date for Aadhaar based e-KYC verification for all mobile phone subscribers
The Supreme Court has made it mandatory for telecom operators to re-verify all the existing mobile subscribers (pre-paid and post-paid) via Aadhaar-based e-KYC. Also, it is compulsory to provide your Aadhaar details while buying new mobile SIM connections. February 6, 2018 is the deadline set by the Supreme Court for re-verifying all existing mobile subscribers.
- December 31, 2017- Deadline for submitting Aadhaar details for enjoying benefits of social security schemes
You don’t need to register separately for every government benefit like the subsidy on LPG cylinders, the Human Resource Development ministry’s scholarship schemes, pensions and subsided ration under Public Distribution System scheme, if you have Aadhaar Unique Identification Number (UIN). Earlier, the last date for providing Aadhaar details in order to avail benefits of social schemes was September 30, 2017. The government has extended it to December 31, 2017 now.
The increasing acceptance of Aadhaar card in every official work makes it important to meet these deadlines.
