Education is one of the most essential aspects in human life.
In the words of Nelson Mandela, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’ Thus it is crucial to ensure good quality education for the bright future of a country. Prof Sudhir Angur, the chancellor of Alliance University points out that the current education system is based on bookish aspect of knowledge. He focuses on the need for reform in the current Indian education system. He further added that the current education system is plagued by rote learning which based on memorization and repetitive aspects of learning. This is the biggest flaw in the current education system as it leaves a little scope for learning, growth and over-all development of students in different fields. It is limited to theoretical knowledge with no emphasis on the development of practical skills. Students only study to score marks in exams or to clear entrance exams like SSC, AIIMS, CA, IIT etc. The entire amount spent on education is futile with no development of skills and potential. The crisis in education sector will not be solved by creating a few more schools or collages. A reform in the education system is the need of the hour to put an end to unrealistic, pointless and rote aspects of learning.
Sudhir Angur stated that the education system should focus on skill based learning instead of testing memorization capacity, cramming information and grasping power. The current education system is based on awarding the best crammers instead of rewarding creative, original thinking, research and innovation skills. Teachers should use innovative methods of teaching to enhance learning and growth of children in each and every field. The education system should offer a wide range of options for courses to choose from.
